Yesterday I did a post on how to choose the niche to build your sites around and so today I just wanted to show you some of the sites that I currently have up for sale so you can get an idea of the niche’s that I use. This is only a small example of niches though as I do vary my niches quite a bit and try not to have the same niche listed at the same time or even close together. For instance, I have a golf website up for sale at the moment and this is the first time in a couple of months that I have done a site on golf.

I have one listing closing tonight which is on Kids Clothing, I have used this niche a few times and it seems to do quite well. You need to remember though that it isn’t just the niche that makes a site sell well, it is the quality of your site. Remember that there is a lot of competition out there and so you need to offer good quality sites if you want the customers to choose your sites over everyone elses.

Kids clothing or any other type of clothing store is quite good because it is a niche that will always have a demand. Some niches come and go but everyone needs clothes and people are always buying new clothes, so these niches are quite popular for that reason, your customer knows that their site if they buy it will always have a demand.

The next site that I currently have up for sale is a ‘baby’ website. This one is different from the kids clothing site as it is baby products in general and not just clothes. I have baby toys, baby clothes and other baby products and once again this is a niche that will always have a demand. I can’t see people stopping having babies any time in the near future so regardless of the economy, the time of year, or anything else, people will always be having babies and therefore there will always be a demand for these type of products.

Up for grabs to my customers next is an adult related website and trust me, this is one very, very popular niche and always will be. The ‘adult’ business is one that sells extremely well and as such these websites seem to also sell very well. They are again a niche that is always popular and also a niche that many people prefer to be a little discrete about which makes shopping online for these products more preferable than going into a physical adult shop.

The only drawback to these websites is that some sites where you list your site for sale will have rules regarding adult content. Ebay Australia for example doesn’t allow adult content, although Ebay US does allow it but only if it is listed in the correct adult category.

Lastly, I have a golf website and once again a site with a niche that will always have a demand. Golf is a popular sport and one that is around to stay, it isn’t a passing fad that will soon fade out, this is one niche that will do well long term and therefore sites in this niche generally sell well.

Now just because all my niches that I currently have for sale are one’s that are always in demand, doesn’t mean these are the only ones you should use. I do sometimes create websites in niches that have seasonal demand or niches that are a ‘new fad’, I’ve done football sites, which are generally only popular during football season. I’ve done halloween and christmas sites and although these are only once a year events the sites still sold quite well.

Sometimes it pays to think outside the box and do something a little different to what other sellers are doing – that way you have the advantage that no-one else is offering a site on that particular niche. Although if it proves to be a big seller, you will more than likely have many sellers copying you and using that niche, so sometimes you have to keep thinking ahead and coming up with new niches, but in the meantime, the old trusty niches should keep doing well for you.

With site flipping the first problem that many will face is choosing the niche to build a site around. You will want to have a variety of niche’s and not just list the same site over and over again and you want to build sites around niches that are popular and that people will want to buy.

So how do you know what people will buy?

There are a couple of ways to choose your niche and here are a couple:

1. Trial and error – ok so that isn’t actually searching for a profitable niche as such but sometimes it is what works. Often you may come across a great niche that you think will be really profitable only to find that it doesn’t sell, while other times you may choose a niche quite spontaneously and not be too confident about it, and it might sell really well. There are some niches that tend to sell better than others in general and over time you will find what sells well for you.

2. View Completed Listings – one way to see what type of websites are selling is to view the completed listings section in Ebay. If you do a search on websites and then select completed listings you will see all of the sites that have sold and the one’s that didn’t sell. Although, just because a site didn’t sell doesn’t necessarily mean the niche is a bad one, it could be that the site was not of good quality or that the seller didn’t have a good reputation, so you will need to check these things to and don’t just write off a niche because a site didn’t sell.

3. Ebay Pulse – this is a site that shows you the most popular searched items on Ebay. By finding out what people are searching for and building a site around those niches you have a very good chance of your site selling. The popular searches will change from time to time so it is good to check Ebay Pulse every now and then to see what is currently popular.

Sometimes you might find that your mind just goes blank and you just cannot think of a niche to build a site around and other times you will have ideas popping into your head like crazy. When you have ideas of niches make sure that you write them down straight away, otherwise you will most likely find that when you get to your computer you will have forgotten them.

Now, off you go and start doing some research and decide on a niche to build your site around.
